"backoff" response field?

I was curious to know if there is a way to know if the webservice returns "backoff"?

Here is what I am talking about from the throttle page:

https://api.stackexchange.com/docs/throttle

The problem that I am facing is that some times there are too many calls being made and then I am unable to get any results for X amount of time. Btw is there ever going to be an expanded documentation? I only found "Getting Started", there is nothing else? Maybe I am missing it somewhere? This is a great API, it has saved me from having to write it up myself, since I am short on time.

Maybe someone could also give me some advice on how they use the api? I am just calling it and caching it for a minute and a half, but it is possible that multiple requests are made at the same time so that causes the clash. I didn't want to have to load it in my database and have just 1 process poll for changes. That wouldn't be ideal, but I am not sure what else to do? Cache the data and have only 1 process poll for changes? I just want to cache whatever users or web crawlers load.

Anybody that can help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
